ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

The NNSA and DOE were caught with their pants down violating NEPA

Los Alamos National Labs began plutonium pit production this year without putting out a programmatic environmental impact statement or a PEIS. This is at best a failure on behalf of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) and the Department of Energy (DOE). Or, a move to deceive and harm the public at worst.

Every single comment must be read and addressed. Speaking your truth on the dangers of nuclear weapons production is paramount, the more comments these government agencies receive the harder it will be for them to address every community concern.

These comments go on public record and can be used in the future for litigators should these not be addressed.

A programmatic impact statement should include any and all potential cumulative impacts from the project. Producing plutonium pits will cause a myriad of harm across many states and nations. Please read the organizational comment and SWOP youth statement and reach out to Alheli@swop.net if you want to write one but aren’t sure where to start.

Before including your address, phone number, email address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, please be advised that your entire comment—including your personal identifying information—may be made publicly available. If you wish for NNSA to withhold your name and/or other personally identifiable information, please state this prominently at the beginning of your comment. You may also submit comments anonymously.

Comments can be sent to; Ms. Jade Fortiner, NEPA Document Manager, National Nuclear Security Administration, Office of Pit Production Modernization, U.S. Department of Energy, 1000 Independence Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20585

Comments can also be emailed (although knowing someone has to physically open a letter gives a little bit more hope these comments aren’t being read and summarized by AI) to; PitPEIS@nnsa.doe.gov
