Calculating Downwind (x) and Crosswind (y) Distance

Pretend your a bird...soaring high above the pollution source. You would see the following site map:

To calculate the downwind distance (red lettering), estimate the distance your sensor is from the pollution source by imagining a horizontal axis parallel to the wind direction and intersecting the smokestack.

To calculate the offwind distance (green lettering), estimate the distance your sensor is form the pollution source by imagining an azis perpendicular to the wind direction thatt intersects your sensor.
