Jovenes Unidos

Jóvenes Unidos seeks to carry out SWOP's mission by learning about history, culture, and social justice through art, theater, music, dance, writing, and other hands-on projects. As the youth and children of SWOP, we also express ourselves through performance, creative projects, and community/youth organizing.

Swop guitar class!!!
The SWOP Jóvenes Unidos program is starting a guitar class for students who want to learn how to play guitar, sing while playing a guitar, and learn about social justice through various songs.
The class is meant for people any age, with no experience on guitar.

The class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00-6:00p.m. in the Jóvenes room at the SWOP office. DATE TO START TBA........

The price of the class is $7/class or packages of $50/10 classes ($5 a class)-non refundable.

When signing up for this class, students are making a commitment to attend every class, and practice every day. If a student misses a class, they will be behind the other students. This is a performance class, so students must be prepared at performances.

Please try to find a guitar to own or borrow. The best kind of guitar for this class is a classical/nylon string guitar. If you don’t have a guitar of your own, here are some options: If you are interested in purchasing a guitar, I recommend Grandma’s Music (Coors and Paseo del Norte), Guitar Boy (Menaul) or Baum’s Music (Eubank). If you know what you are doing, you can shop at pawn shops or used guitar stores for a used guitar. You’d be surprised at how many people have guitars and aren’t using them, ask your friends/family to borrow one. If you are unable to find your own guitar, SWOP will help, let me know.

Please call Rosina at SWOP for more info: 247-8832 or email rosina@swop.net

Reconnecting with the Past

We took a trip in August to the Mora Valley of northern New Mexico, entitled "Reconnecting with the Past." Youth and adults killed a goat and ate it, had camp fires, saw a live performance by Cipriano Vigil y Familia, and visited long time friends of SWOP who live life like our families did in the past, with acequias, farms, animals, preservation of food, etc.
