environmental justice

Working class people of color have paid the historical price of disproportionate and adverse affects of toxic chemicals in and around the communities where we live, work and play. The Environmental Justice Movement is the response by working class people all over the world who have been affected by this form of racism. SWOP has been an instrumental leader in the EJ movement to end Environmental Racism. Visit our Community Environmental Bill of Rights.

Environmental Racism:

"Racial discrimination in environmental policy making and the enforcement of regulations and laws, the deliberate targeting of people of color communities for toxic waste facilities, the official sanctioning of the life threatening presence of poisons and pollutants in our communities, and the history of excluding people of color from the leadership of the environmental movement." -Dr. Reverend Benjamin Chavis (Mohammed)

Scorecard now compares pollution levels with census demographics. Is there an Environmental Justice issue in my neighborhood?

Also, visit Scorecard's POLLUTION LOCATOR to see if pollutants are coming your way! The pollution locator finds, for example, Toxic Chemical Releases from Manufacturing Facilities, state-by-state information on Hazardous Air Pollutants and Potential Sources of Land Contamination.
