A little follow up to piece by Dave Marsh last month on Live 8 - below is a
note from Manu Chao posted on his own website re. a performance he was
supposedly scheduled for at the Paris concert.
The word that got out was that he had cancelled at the last minute. Here he
clarifies things, in French and Spanish. For those who speak neither
language, he says that he had refused to play in the first place, and that
his "cancellation" had been announced in spite of this. He writes in his
note in Spanish that he considers Live 8 to be "a show biz montage set up
for stars to gain cheap publicity." He adds his opinion that an entity such
as Clear Channel would not consider the cancellation of the African debt to
be within its interests.

Juste un petit mot au sujet du concert
LIVE 8 de Bob Geldolf and Co a Paris…le 2 Juillet dernier .
A mon immense surprise, M6 a annoncé
en direct que j’avais annulé mon concert
a la dernière minute…
C’EST ABSOLUMENT FAUX !.
Vu que je n’avais jamais eu l’intention
de participer à cet évènement….
Malgré cela les organisateurs ont continué
A tromper le public en faisant croire
que j’allais venir chanter… C’est tout simplement
dégueulasse… et prouve un manque de respect absolu
envers tout le monde….
Il était hors de question pour moi
de participer à un évènement benefit
où trempent des sociétés comme Clear Channel…
qui sont, à mon avis bien loin d’être sincèrement
preoccupés par la dette africaine…
je vous suggère d’ailleurs de vous renseigner
sur Clear Channel et leurs activités dans le monde
de la musique…vous risquez d’être surpris…
…n’hésitez pas à m’informer de vos trouvailles…

Muchos medios de comunicacion
manipulados por los propios
organizadores han anunciado que
participé a ese evento…
YO NO HE PARTICIPADO A ESE EVENTO !
Y NUNCA TUVE LA INTENCION DE HACERLO !
Que quede bien claro !!!
No porque yo, este en contra de la cancelacion
de la deuda de los paises africanos….todo lo contrario…
Pero porque ese evento me parecio mas todo un montage
de show buziness y estrellas en busca de publicidad
barata y facil que otra cosa….mi lucha va por otros caminos.
Ademas tengo serias dudas que una Sociedad como Clear Channel
que cada dia mas esta monopolizando el buziness
de la musica mundial
este realmente interesada en la deuda africana…
…si teneis tiempo…informaros sobre lo que es realmente
Clear Channel….es muy interesante…casi da miedo…
…no dudeis en mandarme info sobre lo que averigueis por ahi
en el forum….

this isnt really news except for the exlaination. he posted the fact that he wasnt going to play a while before (on june 6th) the concert in the news section of his web page under "Paris... Mexico..." which is the previous entry in news.
It's interesting the the "word that got out" was the position of the organizers... it seems like kind of a pathetic move on their part to not be upfront about his not playing.

When Bozo was posing with Bush and Blair for their virginity restoring photo ops and telling the word that the two criminals were kind and compassionate, a friend mentioned that Bozo wants badly to be Manu but a poseur will always be a poseur.
By the way, speaking of Clear Channel:
Arthur Fogel, is the head of Clear Channel's TNA International and U2's world tour producer.
U2 agent John Giddings, is also head of Clear Channel's London-based Solo Agency.
Bozo is a spokenperson and a smokescreen for the World Bank and its policies which have decimated those same countries they say they want to help.
We had huge media shows for the bombings in Iraw, Afghanistan, Kosovo and Bosnia (and we allowed Bin Laden to bring in thousand of muhajeddins there. Since then, they were involved in WTC, Madrid and a few others. The last 3-4 Al Quaeda leaders in Saudi Arabia were all active in Bosnia and the last one came back from there with a Muslim bosnian wife and passport. Remember to thank Bozo next time we talk about Beaner. He openly supported the muslim bosnian leader who had published a book, Islamic Declaration, which openly claimed that islam cannot live in conjunction with other religions or social structures, it has to be above everything else. Charming fellow....I can see why Bozo liked him).
The Live 8 propaganda show was just a continuation of the media assault that was used to justify the last 4 illegal attacks by the US/UK this past decade.
The media is used to get us onside with humanitarian bombings, to convince people that overthrowing a governemnt after close elections is acceptable (in other countries only) and that the same people who raped continents want to change their ways of doing business.
Of course, the corporate media will claim that 'it is only doing their job' and see nothing wrong with running press releases from state departments as news.
Manu's posse runs a site called radiochango.com which encompasses many groups from europe, latin america (even Canada!) and I found on their site a cool link to a site which gathers articles from worldwide sources including writers like Greg Palast, John Pilger and others : http://www.globalresearch.ca/
Its a shame that artists Manu, Rage against the Machine, Micheal Franti, La Chango Family dont get much airtime and that warmongers like Bozo and Auntie Paul McCartney get to spout their pro-war rhetoric.
But then again, thousands of people gathering at Porto Alegre is also avoided because that is not a message that should be given to the people.
