"If you speak out, you are a radical. If you don't, you're an easy target."-Joe Narvaez, SWOP board of directors... .
Philips Corporation is asking for an additional $19 million in tax breaks from the City. In exchange for these breaks, Philips offers no new jobs. Philips has in fact lost 550 jobs since last receiving tax breaks in '95. Meanwhile, residential property taxes in Bernalillo County have skyrocketed over the past two years. Wealthy corporations should be required to pay their fair share of taxes. I strongly urge you to reject the current Philips request and negotiate a proposal that will provide real economic and social benefits to our community.
Sincerely,
Your name.
