!!SWOP Summer Internship '08!!

This summer internship was incredibly fun and full of great experiences! We were involved in the South X Southwest gathering and also got the opportunity to learn about how to become a good facilitator, about how to break down advertisements, and much more in workshops and trainings. The bulk of our internship was working on two different projects for the Take Control Campaign, which is a campaign to get students to realize that there are many opportunities for them after high school besides the military.

Killian, Ashley, Emma, and I worked on a short film. It’s a parody to an Army commercial. We left their words and put images and facts that better tell the realities of joining the military. It was an awesome experience! Although we hit a few bumps in the road and felt like we couldn’t accomplish our goals, we always came together and were able to conquer our obstacles. I learned so much through this internship. I learned more about filming and the different techniques to use. It was cool that we got to work in groups this time, because it is so much easier to come up with great ideas when you have your peers to bounce ideas off of. The film came out amazing!
The other project is a direct action.

Tracy, Romilly, Lucia, Cheyenne, and Monica have been working on it. Their project is more of a surprise. If you’re interested in what they have been working on, join us next Saturday, Aug. 9th, at 2 p.m. at the food court in the Coronado Mall. At 3 p.m. there will be a press conference held at the APS office across the street, 6400 Uptown. Hope to see you there!!
