Position: Summer Youth Interns (4)
Job Shadowing: June 16-June 20
Training: June 23-June 25 plus a weekend gathering June 27- July 1
Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:00am-3:30pm
Pay: $8.00 per hour 15 hours per week
Program: June 23-July 25
The SouthWest Organizing Project (SWOP) is a community benefit (non-profit), community based organization that works to empower ourselves and our communities to realize racial and gender equality and social and economic justice. We are excited to announce we are currently in search of 4 part time youth interns that have been involved with SWOP at some point in the passed for the summer. Under the guidance of a SWOP staff member the youth interns will take part in a four component program. Including:
- Job shadowing a SWOP organizer to gain a clear understanding of the components of organizing.The youth leader interns will get hands on experience in community organizing, including campaign development and planning, door-to-door member contacts and advocacy, and training in grassroots fundraising and strategic media planning. This is an amazing opportunity for a young person to challenges themselves to grow and develop as a strong community leader.
- Leadership development and political education training instituted.
- South X SouthWest a gathering of social justice leaders from Texas, Mississippi, Texas and New Mexico where they will build relationships with other young leaders from across the South and SouthWest and learn about the history of the Civil Rights and Chicano Movements.
- Last they will work in teams to plan an event or work on a specific issue campaign with specific goals and end product.
Requirements
- A young person that has been involved with SWOP at some point in the passed.Application Process

- Willingness to work on all SWOP campaigns and projects
- Highly motivated
- Openness to learn about and critically question social issues
- Responsible and on time
- Interest in improving communities
