Yesterday's Oregonian:
"Intel says it's not done reorganizing, and nearly all industry watchers agree more job cuts are on the way. Estimates run as high as 15,000, but others expect the number to be much smaller.I think many former Enron employees would recognize the way top managers are protected, no matter how much damage they do.
"Although Intel wouldn't provide the job titles of any workers being laid off, there are apparently no top-level executives among them. That frustrated laid-off workers I spoke with on Friday. They complained that the people whose leadership put Intel in a tough spot dodged the ax, which fell instead on the rank and file."

The worst part of Intel's strategies is that they are not upfront about them, and do not appropriately communicate with their shareholders and potential investors. Investors and shareholders are kept in the dark. The stock is depressed because Intel management doesn't seem to know how to communicate to the market. The stock is labeled "a dog" by investor experts, despite them having one of the highest rates of return, best price-earnings ratio and one of the best balance sheets in the dow. Meanwhile there are thousands of Intel employees who have been given stock options instead of pensions, and those options are worthless because the company management does not know how to communicate with investors and their stockholders. Most successful public companies, when faced with the necessity of layoffs, will honestly annouce layoffs in advance, giving their stockholders, employees and other participants advance notice. This in turn usually raises the stock price because investors realize that profits should go up. Instead of honestly making such announcements, Intel management hides behind a veil of secrecy, even denying potential layoffs, while the very employees they lay off get no benefit from their stock options (because there are no announcements or adequate communication with investors). Intel management should learn how to communicate better with investors. They could benefit from bringing on some outside management who have learned how to communicate with the market managing other blue-chip companies. Instead of bringing in proven stock-promoting management, Intel chooses to promote from within. While this may be an honorable, it can easily create a 'borg'-like mentality. Most of all it is doing no justice to all the shareholders who have to wait out the stock while the Intel CFO and CEO fumble the stock price. Note to Intel management: the stock market is ashamed of you! With the kind of earnings and growth you've had over the past five years, shame on you for your inability to raise your stock price and raise investor interest!
I do not wear my Intel branded clothing anymore for the same reason. I am ashamed to work for Intel and it's no-show management. I look forward to a new company in the near future.
Intel Corporation has many more
problems than simply being unable
to communicate the bottom-line
to investors.
Working for Intel is a nightmare,
period. Intel is a corporate
back-water that looks more like a
company from the 1950s than the
21st century. They recognize and
reward only one class of employee:
The manager. Intel will stop at
nothing to protect, reward, and
advance its managers, no matter
how incompetent or screwed-up
they are. This has been going on
for as long as they've been in
business. This problem is
amplified a million times by the
fact that managers know that Intel
protects them, and even the most
egalitarian then become tin-pot
tyrants.
An Intel manager protects his or
her own team, and they don't care
if they have to attack your civil
rights to do so. They will
actively discriminate against you,
and actively promote their own
race and nationality. This is
particularly a problem with Asian
and Middle-Eastern managers.
The managers that don't have
racial hangups typically don't
see any problem with destroying
your career either, and make
things as painful as possible to
work for them -- all in an effort
to protect their friends and
their "core team."
And if you are an American, and
especially if you are a white
American, you're going to have to
deal with Intel's unique brand
of racism and discrimination.
Intel actively discriminates
against white Americans, calling
them "dumb," "poorly educated,"
and "unsuitable for high-tech
positions." These are more or
less direct quotes from people
like Craig Barrett, Tom MacDonald,
and other Intel VPs and GMs; and
have been made several times in
public to the press. Intel tries
to defend charges like this by
pointing out that they hire
thousands of white Americans in
their company. This is true. But
when it comes to hiring people
for technical positions, Intel
almost exclusively hires Asians,
and actively discriminates against
non-Asian candidates.
So, before I continue, here's an
innocent question for my readers:
If you're an American engineer,
and you're not Asian, and you
happen to be lucky enough to work
at Intel, do you realize how most
Asians are going to start acting
once they hear their leadership
making comments like this to the
press?
That's right, buddy. Your life
will become a living hell as your
Asian coworkers start acting like
they have every right to ignore
you and dismiss your work. Intel
has just confirmed many an Asian's
feelings of racial superiority.
When myself and my friends would
walk around the hallways at Intel,
the Asians would act like they
didn't even see you. They'd
casually dismiss everything you
say. I had one Chinese manager
ask me once if my wife was Chinese.
That was the only thing he wanted
to know before he laid me off.
His only concern was if another
Chinese person might suffer
inadvertantly from his race-based
decision.
Intel preferentially hires Asians
and ignores complaints of racial
discrimination from those who are
not Asian. An African-American
fellow once told me that he felt
he had zero chance of landing an
engineering job at the company,
simply because of how Asians
would view his race. He was
right.
These illegal, discriminatory,
race-based actions by Intel are
hurting Intel big-time. Because
of their views on race, they've
hired literally thousands of
incompetent Asian engineers. I've
seen Asians get hired who don't
know the first thing about
electrical engineering, and who
don't even have a proper
academic background for the
position they were hired for.
I've been in engineering teams
where half of the team is
related to one another -- brothers,
sisters, cousins, and uncles all
work together in the same team
or the same division. And I'm
not guessing at this, or telling
you a fairy tale -- these people
see no problem in telling you that
they are related. Guess how all
that pans out for your chances
of getting an interview at Intel?
Guess how all that pans-out when
you send your resume to Intel?
Guess how all of that pans-out
when it comes time for layoffs?
Guess how all that pans-out when
it comes time for promotions, or
bonuses?
THAT is the type of corruption,
racism, cronyism, and outright
pathological bigotry you will face
at Intel as a non-Asian American.
Intel is constantly in panic-mode
because A) It's engineers don't
know what they're doing, simply
because many of them were hired
for the wrong reasons; and
B) As many of these erstwhile
Asian bakers, soldiers, hummus-
selling art-dealers and hustlers
decided to become Intel engineers
and were subsequently promoted to
management, they didn't have a
clue as to how to do that job
either.
Here's a typical scenario:
Ram Krishnamurthy -- or Fa Dai
-- or Waleed Mahmoud -- lies on
his resume, and gets a visa
illegally by filing a visa
application that is rife with
outright lies and fake credentials.
One can get an illegal birth
certificate in India, so the name
itself could even be false. So,
an Asian with a fake name, fake
academic credentials, and "twenty
years of doing circuit design"
for a company that mysteriously
closed last year for some odd
reason, and therefore there is
no paper-trail to prove anything,
Mr. Nice-Immigration-Officer,
(please accept my family's bribe
as an acknowledgement of my
country's rampant corruption),
then comes to America, and answers
the immigration officer in
America with extreme deference,
humility, and over-the-top
politeness.
He then shows up, sooner or later,
at a college he applied to while
in India. Or a different one, it
really doesn't matter once the
professors are also from India,
now does it? He moves in with
family that already came here with
fake credentials, or he moves in
with other Indians who also came
here with fake credentials.
They then scoot through the
academic year by working together
on all assignments, and cheating
on everything. That's right,
my precious American reader --
those Asians are SO smart.
Then, when graduation is on the
horizon, they send an email to
their buddy at Intel:
Hey, Man!
Krishna here. how r u? i got 2
months for my m. eng, man. u
got a job 4 me? i know u can do
it.
Within a week, our precious little
Asian intellectual has a job at
Intel, without even going through
a formal hiring process. His
F-1 visa wasn't questioned, and
the job was not held open for
six months for any American
candidate that might apply.
Ram shows up for the job, gets
his photo id, and shows up at his
office. He puts a few papers
here and there, and creates some
directories within his account.
He takes his laptop home, and
relaxes. Rarely going into work,
and taking long coffee-breaks
and walks outside if he does go
in, Ram has it made, friends.
His Indian pals will protect him
when Focal comes around. And
anyway, soon Craig Barrett or
some other corporate officer will
make another public statement
praising Asian engineers, and
things will be even easier once
Intel announces more layoffs.
You see, somehow, inexplicably,
and in complete corporate
secrecy, nearly all of the
engineers that will be laid-off
will have names like Mike, Scott,
David, Ray, Eric, and Jim. Ram
will be just fine, Man.
****
Time for some class-action
action, folks. It's time for the
government to get involved here.
If the United States government
can protect the civil rights of
its people in the 1960s, it can
do it again in the 21st century.
And it is WAY past time to close
the immigration games in our visa
system. Be informed, vote, and
put effort in your political
system, and you will get results.
And don't be afraid to use the
court system.
Or, simply get ready to have your
children be uneducated and on the
welfare system, because they
can't get into the engineering
schools and into the engineering
companies because of all the Asians
who are illegally coming into this
country.
And if your long-term strategic
plan for your family is to steer
your kids away from the engineering
jobs, would you like me to talk
about the kind of people that
are getting jobs in the medical
and legal fields these days? Or
all those government jobs that
you always thought would certainly
be there if things got tough?
And if all that doesn't matter,
because you're sure that at least
those jobs at the 7-11 or
supermarket will still be there,

My manger's boss protects him despite his numerous screwups costing the company millions of dollars per year. Complaining gets you fired or a bad review.
It would be wise of Intel to start
changing their race-based engineering hiring policies. It is now an explicitly-defined civil rights violation in several states to hire an immigrant illegally in place of an American citizen.
it is intel's legal responsibility to verify the education and experience of ALL its employees -- including its foreign hires; and it is their legal responsibility to consider the education and experience of all employees in exactly the same way.
hiring asians just because management wants to hire asians, or because the asians already there only want to hire asians or asian family members, is ILLEGAL, and is a federal civil-rights violation. any non-asian and/or American citizen that has been denied a job or laid-off due to intel's 'Focal game-playing' over the last 10 years or so now has the right to apply for a
settlement, and to apply for class-action legal protection.

I work at Intel in Rio Rancho and I am a white male. It seems that management here is mostly hispanic, which i do not have a problem with. However, the use of guidelines by my manager with other hispanic employees have been somewhat lax compared to other white and black employees on the team like myself. Its of course hard to pinpoint and would be useless to try to file a formal complaint, but the evidence is out there: Approvals of unscheduled vacations not within guidelines, valuable class time to certain individuals not qualified for maintenance work, and giving free time to individuals with "problems". And then there are the performance reviews. Meanwhile, the manager uses these guidelines to post any and all blockades to white and black employees who are asking for legitimate time off within proper time frames, or using PA within Intel guidelines and then being presented with some stat sheet about how your abusing the system while hispanic employees arent using their PA but rather vacation because of a soft spot felt by their manager. The hispanic manager goes on to deliver the bad news about PA, vacation, or bad reviews to non hispanic employees with a straight face and very serious. All the while they are not realizing that people talk within the team and the truth about what someone got or didnt get is already out there. How can they think that were not aware of the favoritism? People that are doing less than half of the work are receiving more benefits while non hispanics are fighting to scrape by. I asked my manager if he had my back when the time comes and he replied "were all in the same boat here". Yeah, you figure that one out, I have.

Check in HR. Indians always get themselves into three positions to take over an organisation:
1. Finance
2. HR - to do the hiring and firing
3. Manager - to do the hiring and firing
Check each department and see if you can find any fmaily ties - they will be related. They bring in thier uncles, aunts, father, mother, cousins etc. Before you know it you have a whole family running a department.
What is the best way to check thier credentials? Do it! They will be fake. If there is one thing Westerners hate it is dishonesty especially on your resume.
Indians are underhanded people - they will crawl to the boss - you dinners at home etc with the boss, and then you, the non-crawler are screwed. They just have to let drop about some racist thing you said - and you are finished - whether you said it or not.
India is a country full of sociopaths. Be afraid - very afraid.
I dont think you would find an honest person in the whole of India. Ghandi? What a heap of hogwash. He was incredibly famous becuase he was so unlike all other Indians. Then again it is coming out now that he wasnt that good either.
Indians crawl through subservience, politeness and that unending smile and dip of the body to sort of bow to you. All th eitme they are plotting to do you in.
Indians spend 95% of thier time at work plotting how to take over thier bosses job and climb the ladder and the other 5% undoing work of thier colleagues.
Be afraid, be very afraid. Westerners are too nice. We would not dream up half the stuff they do. It isn't a level playing field.
They know how to use our own laws and ethics against us. We are so against racism, they use it.
They most likely wont be able to help themselves - most have another business going out of the business they are working in.
Be afrain, very afraid - and then be doubly afraid if they are Muslim to boot.
Eeeeeeewwwwww!!!

You may be white bloggers..there
are different types of personalities..dont say that
are indians are same..20-30% or
more is bad in every culture.
Lets face it, many white americans
are indeed stupid..see those Talk shows..sleeping with others Wife's,
Gays, niggers doing blondes,drunkards,brawls,..these are common American problems..Atleast THE great Mahatma Gandhi taught us values..
I went to his ashram in N Delhi.
Have any of u travelled to india/china..then you write comments..Bad apples will be there everywhere..i work at Intc..the
rules are strict..agreed..Managers get all the way..White,asian,philipino..
I had white boss..im asian..i left.
Intel doesnt hire useless people mark me, they select people from universities like ASU (top school for comp architechture).
Intel made blunders as all know by entering Communication chip market pay $15 billion and exit out selling it for 1/10th of its value.
Sr Mgmt is to blame..as they made
the wrong moves..also during dotcom
Intc pay $180k for useless database
and java people for junk work.
They remove the best teams..and they paid a big price..There is
a WORD for it "INCOMPETANCE"..friends..

There's a lot of truth in these comments. As far as the last comment goes where one may read that we should be "facing it" that "many white [A]mericans are indeed stupid..see those Talk shows..sleeping with others Wife's, [sic]" -- I'd like to point out the fact that there are millions of illiterate Indians and Chinese in the world today. And many Indians, Chinese, and other Asians who ARE literate are still enormously stupid. I know, because I've met hundreds of them. Also, I've been to India, Singapore, and Korea; and many Asians there sleep with other's wives, do drugs, watch porn, masturbate, skip school, don't go to college, murder each other, watch stupid sitcoms, rape children, get multiple divorces, etc. So, acts of sin, poor judgement, and poor morals are not limited to white Americans, you racist little idiotic Anonymous poster. Anyone who thinks so is, in fact, quite stupid indeed. Mahatma Gandhi TRIED to teach many Indians his values, but many of you lacked morals in the first place and are far too stupid to listen to anything he had to say. Your comments here merely stand as additional evidence of the type of racism and racial stereotyping that many white Americans at Intel face from Asians on a daily basis.
So, getting back to the point under discussion, I have the following to say: There IS a huge problem at Intel in the way white American engineers are treated. They are, in fact, massively discriminated against when it comes to hiring, retention, promotions, wages, and bonuses. They face racial and ethnic harassment on a daily basis from Asian employees and from Asian managers.
White engineers -- past and present -- are in need of a class-action lawsuit to return them to employment and to recompense them for their lost wages and suffering, as Mr. O'Donnell has already mentioned. I worked at Intel for several years, and I have seen first-hand how whites are treated there by many Asians
-- and by the Chinese, Indians, and muslims in particular.
But whites at Intel also face discrimination from older white Americans, such as Craig Barrett and Tom MacDonald (above comment). The reason many Asian engineers are hired at Intel in the first place -- most of whom have very poor credentials to do the work they've been hired to do -- are because many white 'baby-boomers' grew up in a time when the country was largely populated ONLY by white Americans, and many of them grew up to think of Asians as 'smarter than whites' (whatever THAT is supposed to mean); and they grew up to think of Asians and other foreigners as 'exotic' and as far more interesting than your typical white American.
Far too often, whenever I am around older white Americans of the 'baby-boomer' generation, I hear them talk about how bad American cars are/were, and how bad American manufacturing is/was, and how bad whites acted in the
'70's, and how this is all somehow proof-positive that "all whites" are "stupid and ignorant." I've seen baby-boomers at Intel that literally start smiling and glowing, and start becoming downright cheerful whenever an Asian starts talking to them; and who then become sullen and defensive whenever a white American starts talking to them. Many baby-boomers at Intel, for lack of a better term, have 'yellow-fever'. They are absolutely infatuated with Asians, and Asian women in particular. Come Focal-time, guess what happens? Come hiring-time, guess what happens? So yes, there IS a lot of truth in what is being discussed here.
There are many Asians at Intel that are highly-qualified to do the work that they have been hired to do. But many of them are not, and thousands of them have been hired merely because they are Asian. They are brought in by their Asian coworkers, and their credentials are never checked. They never go through the intensive interviews that white candidates are subjected to. They are never asked hundreds of technical questions UNTIL some tiny, microscopic, remote, esoteric bit of technical trivia is found to be lacking in their knowledge (which has no relevance whatsoever to the job which they are interviewing for), and is then used to deny them employment -- but such things are used against every white candidate that applies to the same job. Nor are Asians -- or anyone with an Asian name -- ever forced to sit through phone-screens where they are asked what race they are, or what their religion is. Nor are Asians forced to sit alone in rooms with a single interviewer, who chit-chats with them, talks about the weather, about college in general, but never asks them a single question about their resume, and then tells the hiring manager that "they don't know anything."
Asians are also never subjected to a strict scrutiny of their visa paperwork, or their claims on their resumes which are, in many cases, nothing but absolute lies. Once hired, their mistakes are hidden from management, and whites are almost always laid-off in their places. Asian engineers at Intel receive ENORMOUS racial preferences in hiring and promotion, and this is supposed to be illegal. The cities where Intel is located -- Chandler, Hillsboro, Santa Clara, Hudson, Beaverton, Portland, Austin, Irvine, and Pittsburgh -- may all soon be forced to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in court-related discrimination costs when these lawsuits start to roll in. These cities should have been playing a proactive role in monitoring Intel Corporation for EEOC violations, and they should have been ensuring that Intel's workforce meets the legal requirements that stipulate a diverse and REPRESENTATIVE workforce.
So, if you happen to be white, and you either work for Intel now or you worked there in the past as an engineer, I urge you to print out some of the comments here on this web page, gather your copies of your Focal paperwork together, and contact your city's legal office and find yourself a lawyer.
You've been put through hell, and you deserve to be compensated for it.
